Default Power

Default power is the authority to determine what happens when no explicit choice is made. It operates through control of baseline settings, opt-out paths, and the effort or cost required to choose differently.

Default power does not require coercion. It operates by defining what happens when no explicit choice is made.

In many systems, the most consequential decision is not which option is chosen, but who defines the baseline state, the opt-out path, and the cost of deviation.

Defaults can coordinate large systems, but they also distribute attention, effort, risk, and responsibility before an individual decision is made.

This site does not argue for or against choice architecture or prescribe a preferred default.

Its purpose is to name a form of authority that often appears as convenience, standardization, or neutral design — while producing real governance effects.

This page is intentionally minimal.

It exists to ensure the term Default Power has a stable place to stand.
